Question about Wear Offsets - Practical Machinist

Adding .01" to your wear will add to your tool. Just think about the actual word "WEAR". If your tool is running and it starts to wear you tell the machine in your wear offset that it has worn down .01". Down is smaller, smaller is a negative #. You should always put the actual diameter of the cutter in your geometry.

For each axis, the machine will simply add together the values in the geometry and wear offsets to come up with a total offset. If a value of -12.0272 is in the X-axis geometry offset register and -0.0020 is in the X-axis wear offset register for the offset being invoked, the total offset will be -12.0292.
